Snuggles the Shih Tzu
Here's my latest commission, of the most adorable Shih Tzu...just finished yesterday. My dear friend, Ruth Welter had asked me to paint Snuggles as a companion to the other painting I recently did for her of another one of her Shih Tzu's, Dudley. Ruth did a very special post about Snuggles today so head on over to her blog and read it...I couldn't have said it better. Snuggles was a wonderful, sweet dog and I'm so honored to have been asked to paint the little man. Thank you, Ruth!

Chihuahua Land
I couldn't let the week end without a loving and appreciative nod to Gidget, the little Taco Bell Chihuahua that just passed away. Didn't you just love her? I have to say...she was one of my all time favorite TV dogs and gave me lots of laughs over the years. Besides Taco Bell commercials, she also appeared as Reese Witherspoon's sassy companion in "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde."
So in honor of her...I just added one of my earlier paintings of Rico, the Chihuahua to my new Etsy Dog Shop. Thanks for being such a bright star, Gidget! May you rest your paws in peace.
And speaking of peaceful paws...here's a shot of Miss Maisie in my studio this morning...enjoying an unusually calm moment. That's after a walk and a dog park of course!
Have a great summer weekend!

New Shop on the Block!
Just wanted to let you know that I've opened a second Etsy shop called, Abby Creek Dogs! I decided that my Dogs needed a separate venue from my Still Life and Abstract work for sale...so now they have their very own storefront.
I'm going to be adding lots more to the shop this next week, including some earlier works like mixed media dog drawings that I used to do. Be sure to check back to see what's new!
Below is a pic of Maisie taken this morning with her favorite toy, the stump. She brought this stump from our old house when we moved and it's still her favorite thing. She tries to bring it through the dog door which is a pretty hilarious thing to watch. My 89 year old friend, Miss Dottie now calls Maisie, Calamity Jane. I think that fits!

Imagination Highway!
Happy Monday out there! Here's the latest in my Abstract Landscape series. I started out with a collage piece taken from an old drawing of mine...and this is what I ended up with. The piece of paper I used is underneath the pink part of the painting. It looked like an asphalt road with white divider stripes so that sparked the idea.
Here's a quote that made me laugh today...
"Those of us who aren't artists
must color things the way they
really are or people might
think we're stupid".
~Jules Feiffer

And here's another Artist Blogger I want you to know about who continues to inspire me and makes me laugh. She makes me make hungry too!
Working on two dog commissions. Back soon!

Party Animal Zine is published!
So if you remember awhile back...I did the painting (below) of "Mardi Gras Maisie" for the PARTY ANIMALS ZINE. Well, now it's published so you can own your very own copy of this very cool book! There were 20 other Dog Artists who each contributed their original artwork to this project to benefit Bernie Berlin's, A Place to Bark rescue organization. All proceeds from the sales of the book go directly to helping the animals there.
You can purchase the book on Lulu.com here. The original works of all the Artists will be auctioned off on Ebay this Fall, October 15th so I'll be back to give you the details about that later.
The Zine made it to The BARK Magazine too...so check it out! Thanks again to Jill Beninato for her hard in putting this all together...and thanks to all the other Artists who created amazing pieces. Cheers to the Sisterhood of Pet Portrait Artists!
Below are two more fabulous pieces from the book by Melissa Langer and Wendy Crumbley...

The Maisie Chronicles, continued...

Hi everyone! Well, Maisie has a story to tell today. She wanted you to know that she's kept me pretty busy this past week taking care of her with a bum leg. Somehow, our little athlete tweaked her back left leg pretty badly so she had to stay off of it for a few days. She had some x-rays taken and they didn't show a break or tear anywhere so we were very grateful for that. Keeping Maisie busy and happy when she can't exercise though is quite the challenge! Lots of frozen bones, stuffed treats, lovey dovey attention AND some doggie sedatives did the trick. She's now up and running full speed ahead...and I do mean full speed!
Below is a new abstract landscape painting I just finished. I didn't really start out thinking "landscape" on this one...but that seems to be the direction my abstracts are taking. I'm enjoying the process though and the shift in my usual color schemes.
Back soon with news on a new Art Zine you'll really want to have for your very own!

New Art and a New Movie
Here's my latest...a landscape abstract titled, "Reaching for Sun". Part of the abstract process that I really enjoy is allowing a painting to unfold without putting too many restrictions on myself. I start out with a line drawing...but if the painting isn't happening with the initial concept...I just let myself go. I keep adding layers of color, line and collage until that magical thing happens...it WORKS! Makes it worth the sweat every time, doesn't it?
Hope you had a good weekend. It was beautiful here with lots of cooler weather and some nice thunder bumpers. By the way...James and I went to see the movie, "Away We Go" and we loved it. Go see it!
