Art and Fear

"Tranquil Voyage"
13" x 16" acrylic and collage on canvas

Hope you all had a good Fourth of July weekend. Is it Tuesday already?!

This new painting, "Tranquil Voyage" is the third piece in my new series of work. I'm trying to get myself to a more calm, meditative state of mind while I paint so this title seemed to fit well. I always listen to music and that helps, but maintaining a certain mental flow without judging what I'm doing has been a challenge.

I recently picked up a book I've had for awhile and I'm glad I did because it's been very helpful while going through this process. It's called "Art & Fear" I would highly recommend it to anyone who has reached a block in their work or to any Artist for that matter. Here's a great paragraph from the book...

"The lessons you are meant to learn are in your work. To see them, you need only look at the work clearly - without judgement, without need or fear, without wishes or hopes. Without
emotional expectations.
Ask your work what it needs, not what you need. Then set aside your fears and listen, the way a good parent listens to a child".

Enjoy your day...back soon with painting #4!

I love that green color; it's gorgeous! I read Art and Fear long ago, when I was in a ten(!!!) year slump of not creating anything. Now, for different reasons than before, I want to read it again. Have to 1) find it, and 2) blow the dust off of it. Thanks for sharing that excerpt!

Can't wait to see the other pieces you unveil!

XOXO, C

Hi there!! so glad you came to visit... I know I have been lax in the comment department of late.... been working on my website... started adding some inventory but nowhere near where I need to be and none of my art as yet...

Looks as if I have missed a LOT... I totally love your new series and I just may have to pick up that book... fear is my biggest downfall right now... so critical with what I do...

LOL on PJ isnt that a riot?

We both thank you and Maise for sending us hugs and kisses and we are sending them right back

HUGS

The new painting is a great serene but playful abstraction, I really like it.
