New Painting...New Movie

"Finding Space"
15" x 18" acrylic and collage on canvas

I'm heading off in a bit of a different direction with this piece. The two paintings I'm currently working on are turning out to be very similar. It's a real joy to watch something completely different emerge from the creative brain!

By the way...I watched a pretty amazing movie over the weekend..."Exit Through the Gift Shop". Here's a brief synopsis..."This is the inside story of Street Art - a brutal and revealing account of what happens when fame, money and vandalism collide." It'll give you great insight into a whole different side of the art world...definitely worth watching!

Back soon!

New Work and Inspiration

"Opening"
30" x 30" acrylic and collage on canvas

Here's my first new painting for 2011. I'm already thinking about a Snippet for this one!

So you know how things start serendipitously showing up in your life when you're looking for inspiration? Well, I was reading the Sunday "Pink Section" of the San Francisco Chronicle that James' Mom always sends us. There was an article about Javier Bardem and his new movie, "Biutiful" and he spoke to the fact that some people might find his new movie too somber. I loved the way he compared it to the work of Francis Bacon. Hope it inspires you too!

"I make a comparison with Francis Bacon's paintings. Some people can't take his paintings because he is too hard and they go out of the museum and go, 'Wow, that was too tough for me. I feel sad'.
But some people stand still in front of his paintings and they see what is behind that drawing. There is compassion. There is love. There is a man who wants to create love out of that paint and bring passion to those characters, and that is what I think this movie is about." ~ Javier Bardem

A Chilly New Year!

Maisie in her spankin' new booties.

Hi everyone...Happy New Year to you! I had to pop in to show you this picture of Maisie wearing her new Muttluk boots. We've had a couple of cold snaps here in Boulder where it hasn't gotten above the low teens all day. When it's that cold...these boots are great and keep her paws nice and toasty.

I've been pretty voiceless on the blog lately and I'm sorry about that because I love hearing from you all. I think working towards my show since early last year has temporarily left me with a "brain freeze"! I have been so consumed with having a voice within my paintings...that my own physical voice has really had to look for words.

Hope to show you some new work soon though. As always, I treasure the voice of each and every one of YOU. Hope your New Year is starting off with a sparkle!
