Take a Seat

"Sit Tight"
8" x 8" acrylic and collage on canvas

Prints available at Imagekind.com

Here's a new piece in my Transition Series. I've always loved chairs in paintings so I guess you could call this an "abstill" (abstract and still life). I didn't start out wanting to paint a chair...but the progression of the painting went that way.

You never know where you'll find inspiration. James and I were up in the mountains with some friends last weekend and did a lot of hiking. I came across the image below on one of those hikes and was just mesmerized by it. It was such a perfect positioning of a shadow on rock. I think it's screaming to be turned into an abstract painting, don't you?

One last thing...I found out about this unbelievable art exhibition over the weekend from our friends. The Artist is Gregory Colbert and he created an ongoing exhibition (Ashes and Snow) of more than 50 large-scale photographic artworks. The photos blow me away with their sensitivity and beauty...take a looksie. I hope it eventually comes to Denver!

Another wonderfully vibrant painting I see a chair, the shadow of the chair on the wall and a rug :0)
I would love to know the process so I could have a go!
I can't wait to see what you do with the photo :0)
