Abby is ailing

Hi all...I haven't felt too much like writing the last couple of days. Abby isn't doing very well. Hasn't really been herself since Friday. The problem is...she is barely standing and isn't walking. She's gone through these periods before...mostly due to renal insufficiency causing hind-end weakness. She has always miraculously bounced back though. James and I doubled her fluids and Sunday she started to feel better. We had just taken Abby to the Vet and all her blood tests came back positive...no big changes. We're thinking at this point it's her arthritis and spine. She's always had issues there as well. Anyway...we decided to try a cortisone shot to see if that helps. It was a hard decision to make because it's very hard on a renal dog's already compromised immune system. It's basically a last resort to see if it helps her to walk again.

Please keep Abby in your thoughts and prayers today...she really needs them. We're hoping that the cortisone kicks in and at least gives her a few more weeks of life. I want my baby to have a few more days of walking around the yard, smelling the grass and the spring air. She is a trooper and is fighting so hard. Bless her little heart.

I am so sorry to read about Abby. I know how hard it must be, to watch her slowly deteriorate! Kiss her on the nose for Pono and I, and read my blog today - see if it helps cheer you up.

Oh Linda, I am thinking of and praying for Abby. I have a very sick little dog right now also. My mini-schnauzer, who is about 4 years old has a very bad infection deep in his ear and we can't get it under control with antibiotics and drops. He was breathing heavy and shallow last night. I'm worried that the infection has spread elsewhere. He has another appointment with the vet on Saturday. I don't know if we can hold out that long.

I'll keep you and Abby both in my thoughts and prayers.

This is the most heartbreaking part of having pets- when they get sick. I am so sorry to hear about Abby, poor little girl, and poor moom and dad! I don't know if this helps any but my dad has major spinal problems and chronic pain as a result and recently had a cortison injection and it helped tremendously. That was 3-4 weeks ago and he is still doing great. I know Abby isn't a human, but the one thing I have learned about dogs is that you never know what the future holds in store. She may surprise you. Take care of yourselves and each other and I will send my healing energy Abby's way.

I don't know what to say Linda, I keep thinking about the Lord of the Rings and when Legolas said of Gandalf, that for him the grief was still too near, a matter for tears and not yet for song. I know you understand what I'm talking about. Please know that our love and prayers are with all of you, especially sweet precious Abby. With much love, your Windy City Gang.
