New Abstract

"Jumping Off"
3.5" x 4.5" acrylic and collage on paper

So I'm thinking of starting to offer some of these smaller prints and paintings on Etsy. I haven't had any experience with Etsy yet so if any of you have some fabulous advice...please do tell! It would be so appreciated.

It's beautiful and bright here in Colorado today. The birds are out singing away...maybe a little too much so for me. Alright already! hee hee.

"The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place; from the sky, from the earth, from a passing shape, from a spider's web." ~Pablo Picasso

Hi there! Oh you should definitely try out Etsy... it is a great place to get your art out there. It can be a little fickle though and I've found (just as in Ebay) that most people want a good deal and won't pay too much... Try some prints but perhaps you might want to try listing an original... people love originals a lot! Good luck.

Love the collage you've show here... it's really great!

I think that's a great idea. The biggest thing about etsy is price. While it is possible to sell original pieces around $100.00, it won't be very many. Most etsy buyers, from my experience, are looking for original art somewhere in the price range from $45.00 to $75.00. Prints seem to do well priced from $15.00 to $25.00.

Having said that, I think you'll do swell on etsy. Your work is great.

This piece has such a sweet energy to me -- it feels like they are leaping and flying instead of falling. And the colors and designs are really pretty.

I think that is a great idea! I have never tried etsy because I am too unorganized to get my act together...I love the idea of little collage/paintings. I think that keeping the size small and the price point resonable key...
Great work and good luck!

First of all, let me say that I love your new piece. It's interestng that you titled it "Jumping Off", which sounds a little sad. I don't get a sad feeling from the painting at all. They seem to be taking off on an adventure! Beautiful work, Linda.

As for Etsy, I agree with what everyone else has already said. Originals sell, but keep them small so that the price is under $100.00. Prints are good too, then you can keep them as an open Edition if you like, and can sell as many as you can.

Linda-
This is nice. I am doing ok on etsy. The cost is so low to post that it is worth a try. As for small prints please look into "ACEO" format (2.5 x3.5). ACEO is something I have been dabbling with myself but have not posted any yet. Seems to be a real internet movement.
At Etsy I sell both 8 x 10 prints and bookmarks. Have had a few questions on custom work but no follow through yet. Etsy is advertsing ... you will of course not get rich, but exposure is exposure. I love it more than ebay ... less hand-holding with clients, if they want it they buy it. Oh ... and shop Etsy girl! Etsy has great stuff by young artists ...really cheap.

I love this Linda! I love the colors and the abstract design is just rad! I can totally see these going up as a small randomly-spaced display in someone's tiny kitcvhen- all in different funky frames. Keep it up!

Also adore the pink chihuahua you did recently, although I may be biased because pink is my favorite color, lol.

Happy weekend!

Hmmm... I thought I left a comment but I have a feeling I typed in those letters all wrong!! I love this piece and the pink and the red and the patterned bits. When I see your collages, I always think Linda' having fun... they are so different from your dog paintings, which are always beautiful.

Thinking of you, Kate oxo

This is just fabulous Linda, love everything about it. Good luck with etsy. I've considered selling my jewellery on etsy but haven't got around to it yet.

Hi Linda!
First thank you so much for your comments on my blog! Much appreciated :)
Second, I used to live in Boulder for 3 years and love it still!
Third, since this is an Etsy thread, I will also chime in. I've been selling on Etsy since March and it has made the difference in me supporting myself as an artist. I can't say enough good things about it. It seems that my work has found its fit. With online selling or any other selling of your art for that matter, what is most important is finding the right fit and audience for your style of art. And the only way to do this is to try and try again. And yes, it's true - Etsy is also an excellent online portfolio, even if you never sold anything - it is a very cost effective way to continue putting your work out in the world for your audience to find you.
Also, true that people do like to buy less expensive art on Etsy, but once you have your following the more expensive pieces sell also. I would say that it's in the process of shifting now. There are some artists that do Fabulously, selling on Etsy! It is very inspiring.
And last but not least, I love this painting. It's simply beautiful, with wonderful colors!
