Wicked weekend!

Oh 'tis the season...blah blah blah!! Yes, I'm a little scroogey this morning because my baby girl dog, Maisie had to have emergency surgery over the weekend. To try and make a long story short (and look out for the gross factor)...Maisie ate a tampon out of the bathroom trash on Saturday morning. I had heard this could be a very dangerous thing for a dog so we called our Vet. She had us bring Maisie in to take an x-ray and if it was in her stomach...would have her vomit it up. While they were looking at her x-ray...they saw an unidentified object of concern. They called us in...and we immediately knew what is was...a metal framing diamond (the kind you shoot in the back of a frame)!! Maisie had been down in my studio with me on Friday...and apparently had licked one up. It was lodged in her small intestine and we couldn't take the chance of perforation so it had to be surgically removed.

Maisie had to spend the night in the hospital...but we brought her home Sunday morning and she should make a full recovery. Poor baby though was just getting over kennel cough...and now she can't take a walk or do much for ten days. She's fine though and pretty much acts like nothing happened. "I" on the other hand am a wreck!! Oh well, at least it's over and she's back home with us. All is right in the world again.

By the way (and this will really date me!)...did you hear that Dan Fogelberg died over the weekend? He was one of my all time favorite singers and I probably listened to his album, "Home Free" about a million times while I was in college. Gonna have to get the CD now and reminisce. He was a great talent for soft, beautiful rock ballads.

Have a good Monday all...xox

Hi Maisie!
This is your friend, Emmitt. Oh my! What an exciting weekend you had. I told my momma, that I think your DNA test will show you are part pug too. As a pug, I am even impressed the way you so perfectly vaccuum up all crumbs on the floor. I always say, you just never know what is going to be delicious, so TRY EVERYTHING. Now we have matching criss cross marks on our tummies. XO Emmitt

Wow, Maisie is lucky to have family like you. Great work, mom!! :)

Hey...no problem on dating yourself. I'm like, the oldest person I work with at my day job. ;) And I'm 38!!! I'm like "Ye Olde Timer"...(in best dentures-missing voice) "I remember when Back To The Future was out in the theaters"!! Yep, yep, yep... ;)

You might want to put that girl in charge of postal security instead of framing. Of course then she might eat up all your junk mail, and that would not go down well either.

Get Well soon Maisie!

Poor Maisie! Good to hear that she is doing okay now. As for you, maybe you need a hot rum toddy!

I think it's really funny that you brought up Dan Fogelberg. I was just emailing back and forth with a friend about him a few minutes ago and Bob and I were talking about him before he went to his second job tonight.

I hope this week before Christmas calms down for you!

Much love from all you Windy City Gang!

I am glad that maisie is doing well. It is a little scary when I think about all the small stuff lying around my studio floor for Delia to ingest.

Although I don't often comment, I enjoy your blog and keep it on my daily blog list.

Merry Christmas

Wow, Linda. Wow, Maisie! My old dog, June, when she was a puppy, used to have a habit of eating--yes, swallowing--dirty underwear from the laundry hamper. And then there was the time she devoured an entire peach pie that was sitting on the kitchen table. Luckily, she outgrew those behaviors--and Maisie will too! No more sharp things, Miss Maisie, okay? xoxo

Ow!!! Miss Maisie, please stop liking up sharp objects from the floor! Pono sends his most slobbery kisses. Remind me to tell you about the dog we knew who ate an ENTIRE BOX of tampons. Someday. (he did survive)

Take deep breaths, Linda! She's FINE!

I can relate with you so much... I've been sad since my husband told me yesterday that Dan had died. His songs all mean so much to me. I've had every one of his albums I think. I didn't know that he was sick... And I'm so glad your Maisie is ok. My girl, Lily, swallowed part of a sponge a few months ago and we had a horrible time with her. It made her really sick but she ended up not having to have surgery. Hugs to you and Merry Christmas....

Oh rats - I commented last night and the wireless went wacko and I forgot it didn't work.
Poor Maisie and POOR YOU! You must have been sick with worry. I don't think the tampon would have hurt her, but it ended up saving her - that and your quick action - by finding the metal bit.
So glad she's all right now.

OMG! Poor Maise! Liberty, too, has some gross eating habits... which was the impetus behind getting bigger garbage cans with lids in the bathrooms! UGH! But poor baby Maise! Abdominal surgery when you have to cough -- ouch!

We send our best puppy get better wishes your way -- give her lots of hugs and keep her away from your studio! :-)

And the Dan Fogelberg thing -- so sad! Hadn't heard, but loved (still do) his music... Totally my generation.

whoa..{{{{maisie}}}} big hugs and lots of doggie bone 'soup' for a quick recovery...although that whole story is a little 'gross' of a story, {vomit and used tampons...eeek. doesn't get any more disgusting than that}i am glad that she got your attention and they found something that was much more life threatening...hang in there, i know how tough it is when our babies are in harms way...

hoping you have a great week

I am so relieved they found the staple when they did! So, I guess we can all say, "Hail, tampon!", or you might not have known. {my old dog Louis loved rubber products, rubber bands etc - and one day while my sister in law was visiting for the first time, Louis went to her suitcase and came out chewing something rubbery - it was her diaphram! Wes till laugh]...I was sad about DF too - I loved his albums when I was a freshman, played them incessantly. I bought the cd's last year, and when I hear certain songs, I can just feel the college room, and everything about it...Gald all worked out - be thankful you don't have hay bale twine around! xo
PS Part donkey? Cool!

Hi Linda, wow, glad Maisie is home with you and recovering. Sorry you had such a rough weekend last week. Your new little girl is quite the garbage disposal isn't she?? I've never had a dog since I've been married, that has done that kind of stuff, my dogs are so small, they cannot reach anything.

Come to think of it though, when I was young and living with my family, I had Fluffy the Samoyed. She ate everything, including toothpaste tubes (that were metal of course and full of toothpaste at the time) I was amazed, even as a kid, what she ate and got away with. She always lived through it.

Oh Linda, I missed this. I'd have been a wreck too. Maybe it was a good thing Maisie ate a tampon and had to have an x-ray - at least you could have the metal thing taken out before it caused some nasty damage. (I cringe to think of the things that have passed through L's stomach.)

It amazes me how fast young dogs recover. Maisie sounds like a toddler, doesn't she?

I had a crush on Dan Fogelberg for ages - when they played clips of his music, I couldn't believe how I still knew all of the lines. He was so cool - had a magical voice and played the guitar amazingly well. But all that paled in comparison to his good looks. Sigh ... he aged well.

Oh my goodness! So sorry you had to go through that. I guess it was good that she ate the tampon otherwise you might not have found the triangle metal thingy. I am so glad all is better now.
Whew!

Oh sweet Maisie....you poor thing! I hope she has a speedy recovery and thank God you saw the framing point in the xray...maybe eating the tampon was good thing? Give her lots of love and TLC and she will be back to her mischief before you know it...Merry Christmas Linda!
