Carla, Linda and Lucy(Carla loves Maisie...she's holding a picture of her. So cute!)
On the last day of our visit...James and I went to see my Aunties, Carla and Lucille. Lucy will be 93 this year and Carla will be 91. They are sisters and have been my guardian angels for a very long time. Every time we see them these days, Carla likes to give each of us a book...one that she has treasured for years. This time, she wanted me to have "Degas Letters"...a beautiful little book of letters and illustrations by Edgar Degas.
Here are two illustrations from the book, the first one being a study for the painting below it. I think the study is actually a beautiful work of art on it's own. Degas had such a poetic and elegant way with a pencil and paper.

Lovely post! It made me miss my grandmother very much. Also, I haven't been by your blog in a while. I am loving your new works, especially Charles Henry (of course)and the Oranges on the Blue Plate...really wonderful!

Wow! Your aunties are beautiful and obviously still sharp as tacks! You have great genes on your side. SF Area was rainy but it was clear and in the 70's today so hopefully that meant you were able to fly out in good weather. hugs.

Your Aunties are so sweet! I'm going to visit my 92 year old Aunt this weekend, and as always , I'll bring a pad of paper and plenty of questions. How lucky we are to still have them in our lives!

I enjoyed reading this post and seeing the photo and you and your aunties. How special to get that great book!!! Yes, we have been having lots of rain out here and of course they tell us it hasn't helped the drought situation. I think we're expecting more starting Monday. My son lives up in the Bay area, and they were just down here for a family get together and now back home.
I had a very special great aunt who gave me art books which I still cherish. You are so right Degas is poetic.
