Revamp and Renew

"A Delicate Balance"
6" x 7" acrylic and collage on canvas"

Original available in my Etsy Shop
Prints available online at
ImageKind.com

In working towards a new "mark" in my work, I decided it would be fun to revamp a couple of my older paintings. My thought is that it will show me more clearly some changes that are developing in my style. I also hope it will help guide me to finding new paths of expression.

The painting above, A Delicate Balance" is a revamp of the painting below on the left which WAS titled,"Happy Chances". I would love to hear your opinions about the differences between the old and the new!

Linda, ok big help here but I love them both. What I love the most though is the second one , the vibrant colors are what attract me. I definately love to hang artwork in my house that has eye catching, very striking colors...the second one really just hits me as a favorite, I think for that reason.

I've never thought of revamping a painting. Very interesting experiment. The two are very different yet I see the similarities in the black bars. I'm adding this to the EBSQ Friday Five. http://blog.ebsqart.com

They are both very vibrant and textural. I do like the fact that the first one has a combo of sharp and curvy edges. Also there are more places for your eye to "rest" on the first one. It's great that you are willing to revisit a painting and try new things. Very bold.

I love them both. I usually am pretty good at talking art and yet when put on the spot I can only say they are both great. How lame is that for a critique? I am curious though about your process, when you say you are "revamping" do you mean the first painting is now gone having been painted over by the 2nd or was it a departure point for a new piece?

I do love these!

A fun experiment, for sure. Especially if it doesn't involve destroying a new canvas to try out your new theories! I love the brilliant colors and red and purple always pair well in my mind!
