Take a Seat

"Sit Tight"
8" x 8" acrylic and collage on canvas

Prints available at Imagekind.com

Here's a new piece in my Transition Series. I've always loved chairs in paintings so I guess you could call this an "abstill" (abstract and still life). I didn't start out wanting to paint a chair...but the progression of the painting went that way.

You never know where you'll find inspiration. James and I were up in the mountains with some friends last weekend and did a lot of hiking. I came across the image below on one of those hikes and was just mesmerized by it. It was such a perfect positioning of a shadow on rock. I think it's screaming to be turned into an abstract painting, don't you?

One last thing...I found out about this unbelievable art exhibition over the weekend from our friends. The Artist is Gregory Colbert and he created an ongoing exhibition (Ashes and Snow) of more than 50 large-scale photographic artworks. The photos blow me away with their sensitivity and beauty...take a looksie. I hope it eventually comes to Denver!

Dream a little dream...

"Dream Space"
16" x 20" acrylic and collage on canvas

Prints available
at Imagekind.com and Etsy

Do you remember your dreams most of the time? I do but my dreams are not as crazy and vivid as they used to be. I kinda miss that! The best ones were always the flying ones. I had one in particular where I was flying over New York city...able to see beautiful color and lights and people having a good time on the rooftops. I woke up feeling SO good!

Hey, by they way...remember the Paws for Charity art book that Abby Creek was part of? Well, now you can purchase a beautiful new Paws for Charity calendar. I think either one would make a great gift for the holidays. You can get a 20% discount on the calendar if you order before September 30th! Just enter the code FALLPHOTO when you order at Lulu.com Here's a sample page of October which has my Greyhound painting top left.

The Glass is Half Full

"Half Full"
12" x 24" acrylic and collage on canvas

Prints available at
Imagekind.com and Etsy

I love paintings with any kind of "vessel" in them...whether it be a bowl, cup, glass, vase, whatever! Thought I would incorporate one in my new abstract series.

James (my treasured and trusted art critic!) pointed out to me yesterday that I seem to be a little too comfortable with a similar color palette in my work lately. I think he may be right...so I'm pushing myself in a different direction with the 30" x 40" painting I'm working on now.

Maisie wanted to make an appearance today so thought I would post this photo of her from our mountain hike last Sunday. She reminds me of Rin Tin Tin here...for those of you who REMEMBER Rin Tin Tin. Geez...I feel old now!

Fire and Rain

View from the studio

This was the view from my studio yesterday afternoon. What a blessing the rain was! With the terrible Fourmile fire that has been burning in the Foothills of Boulder...the cooler air, the moisture and the clouds were a beautiful site. We saw this rainbow as we were driving home after the storm so I grabbed my camera as soon as we got here and took a picture. I've never seen a double rainbow quite like THIS. It was as if we were driving right through it and could see the full arches touching ground on each side of us. Pretty spectacular!

"Flourish"
24" x 36" acrylic and collage on canvas

prints available at
Imagekind.com and Etsy

This is a new painting...decided to go horizontal instead of the vertical format this time. I'm working on another 30 x 40 right now...so hopefully will have that one and a few others to show you very soon.

Please keep good thoughts for all those affected by the fire, both human and animal. There was a great Letter to the Editor in the newspaper this morning reminding people about the Louisiana law of 2006 where people are no longer forced to leave their animals behind in emergency evacuations and where hotels must accept animals when people are in need of shelter after a tragedy. At least that was something good that came from the events of Hurricane Katrina.

Gonna go hug Maisie now and be very thankful that we are all safe and together and still have a home.

New Art 'n Stuff

"Unfolding"
12" x 24" acrylic and collage on canvas

Prints available at Imagekind.com and Etsy

Here's the latest in my abstract series. This 12 x 24 canvas size seems so perfect for floral abstracts. Think I may have to do a few more of these.

I stumbled across this gallery site the other day and was blown away by the quality of work by so many Artists. Take a look...I think you'll enjoy it.

Happy Friday before a long weekend! Got any plans for Labor Day? I think James and I are staying put here in Boulder...to work a little on our house and in our garden and to savor this last weekend of summer to the fullest!

Whatever you do...hope yours is filled with fun! xox
