Yay for Yoghund!
Happy Friday out there! Just another hot day here but fortunately Maisie is keeping happy with her Yoghund and frolicking in the creek behind our house.
So here's my next painting...back to an 8" x 8" again just for something different. The next one I'll be showing you is a 30" x 40". That's yowza big for me!
One more thing...I have a newsletter coming out soon and I would love to have you join my contact list. I'll be emailing them only about four times a year but they will be chock full of all sorts of good stuff! You can just zip over here and sign up on my website.
Stay cool everyone, have some Yoghund with your dog and have a beautiful summer weekend!

Spring in the Summer
Feeling a bit loopy this morning after Maisie woke us up at 4:30am barking her pants off at a family of raccoons. It seems this little family of six has taken up residence near the creek behind our property. Fortunately, we have a fence but Maisie is determined to shout out the "no trespassing" bark anyway just to be sure!
The above painting is the next addition to my new series. I think this is also a transition piece because it seems very different to me than the previous ones. I like the way things are going though so I'm goin' with the flow!
I found this sweet poem today that seems to go very well with the painting.
Have a good one!
Rain
Peaceful, calming, reassuring,
thunder rolls on by,
dancing is the rain,
sky white with lightening,
I dance,
for I am at peace,
the rain oh so soothing,
it pours down my face,
I run free and wild,
while I sleep,
I have no fear,
my dreams peaceful,
I thank the rain...

Under the Wire!
Just sliding in here before the end of the week! This is the next in line of the new series. I'm really enjoying the layering process with these. The colors always become so much richer as each layer happens.
Also, take a looksie at this cool blog, Wattlebird. Abby Creek is featured there today along with some other Artists here in Boulder. It's a great place to find Etsy Artists in your local area.
Have a great weekend and have fun! Think we'll be taking Maisie for a swim at some point. That girl is lovin' the water lately!

Something New and Blue
Heading in a bit of a different direction here. Part of the fun of working on these new abstracts is seeing how they shift and bend in new ways. I chose another size I'm not used to working on...and by happy accident...a floral abstract emerged. Gotta love those happy accidents!
Tomorrow evening, we're heading to the Denver Botanic Gardens to tour the Henry Moore Exhibit. Numerous Moore sculptures are placed throughout the beautiful gardens...so it should be an amazing sight to see!
Hope to take some good pics for ya!

Partners in Crime
Here's the picture I promised you last Friday of Maisie and her partner in crime, Max. I like this shot because this is what they're like when they are together...the two of them have so much fun and they don't stop moving. I also like this picture because Max seems to have developed a human back leg...Ahck!
Back tomorrow with another new painting. Have a great Monday!

Another newbie
13" x 16" acrylic and collage on canvas
I seem to be at a loss for words today (I know that's unusual, James!)...so I am just going to post this new painting. If any words come to YOUR mind when you see it...I would love to hear them.
One of Maisie's boyfriends is coming over for a play date tonight. If they slow down long enough for me to take a picture, I'll post one tomorrow. They are so adorable together!

Starlight Starbright
Wooooweee...it's cookin' here in Boulder today! It's supposed to reach almost 100 degrees. I don't know about you...but I was raised in Northern California and I like it to be foggy in the morning and a sunny 72 degrees in the afternoon. Some might call me a weather wimp...and they would be right.
This painting is next in line from my new series. I'm interested in adding more organic and natural forms to my work right now. I want the paintings to convey a dreamlike feeling...of being gently enveloped by color, shape and light.
Hope it's cooler in your neck of the woods...time to turn on the AC here!

Sizing things up
8" x 8" acrylic and collage on canvas
I decided to paint a smaller size again after the previous two paintings. Most of the new paintings I've been working on are larger sizes...but I decided to go back and paint this 8" x 8" just as an experiment. Funny...but I found it was difficult to go back to mini-land! After tackling the previous 24" x 24", I feel like I'm better able to translate these new ideas onto larger canvases. I love the look of smaller, boxed canvas paintings though so I'm sure I will be doing more.
Take a looksie at the EBSQart blog's "Friday Five" today...I'm one of the featured Artists. There are some great blog links there to check out.
Hope the weekend is a good one for you! James and I are going to an Art Opening tonight...then dog-sitting Emmett, the Chocolate Lab tomorrow. He's coming to spend the day here with Maisie so I'm sure there will be lots of silly antics in the kiddie pool!

Art and Fear
Hope you all had a good Fourth of July weekend. Is it Tuesday already?!
This new painting, "Tranquil Voyage" is the third piece in my new series of work. I'm trying to get myself to a more calm, meditative state of mind while I paint so this title seemed to fit well. I always listen to music and that helps, but maintaining a certain mental flow without judging what I'm doing has been a challenge.
I recently picked up a book I've had for awhile and I'm glad I did because it's been very helpful while going through this process. It's called "Art & Fear" I would highly recommend it to anyone who has reached a block in their work or to any Artist for that matter. Here's a great paragraph from the book...
"The lessons you are meant to learn are in your work. To see them, you need only look at the work clearly - without judgement, without need or fear, without wishes or hopes. Without
emotional expectations. Ask your work what it needs, not what you need. Then set aside your fears and listen, the way a good parent listens to a child".

Enjoy your day...back soon with painting #4!
