New Painting and Museum Visit

"Room to Grow"
16" x 16" acrylic on canvas
2013

Here's a new painting, just finished...a little different palette used than in the last few pieces.

James and I went to the Clyfford Still Museum in Denver recently and loved it. The current exhibition is  Red/Yellow/Blue which displays Still's interest in using primary color in many of his works. I was really drawn to this one in his yellow series. Beeeeeautiful!

You can read more about Clyfford Still's life and work on the museum blog here.

New Painting

"Crossroads"
6" x 6" acrylic and collage on board

New painting just finished yesterday...working on a smaller surface this time.

I'm heading to California for a few days to see family. I'll be back in the studio at the end of next week, looking forward to finishing up some other new works to show you!

Art Unleashed

"Beyond the Glass"

Finally got a good photograph and a title for my recently finished painting. Might have to make a couple of snippets out of this one! You can email me here if you're interested in purchasing it. It will also be available on Etsy soon.

Have a great Monday!

Let go and let the paint flow!

"Letting Go"
16" x 16" acrylic and collage on canvas

Wow, only a little over three weeks to go before the show! In the next week or two, I will be wrapping up the painting for awhile...and will be varnishing, labeling, writing a bio and sending out postcard invitations.

I'll be back on Thursday with more specific details about the show. If you'd like to have a postcard mailed to you, just shoot me your address!

Take a Seat

"Sit Tight"
8" x 8" acrylic and collage on canvas

Prints available at Imagekind.com

Here's a new piece in my Transition Series. I've always loved chairs in paintings so I guess you could call this an "abstill" (abstract and still life). I didn't start out wanting to paint a chair...but the progression of the painting went that way.

You never know where you'll find inspiration. James and I were up in the mountains with some friends last weekend and did a lot of hiking. I came across the image below on one of those hikes and was just mesmerized by it. It was such a perfect positioning of a shadow on rock. I think it's screaming to be turned into an abstract painting, don't you?

One last thing...I found out about this unbelievable art exhibition over the weekend from our friends. The Artist is Gregory Colbert and he created an ongoing exhibition (Ashes and Snow) of more than 50 large-scale photographic artworks. The photos blow me away with their sensitivity and beauty...take a looksie. I hope it eventually comes to Denver!

Under the Wire!

"In The Midst"
24" x 24" acrylic and collage on canvas

Prints available at Imagekind.com and my Etsy Shop

Just sliding in here before the end of the week! This is the next in line of the new series. I'm really enjoying the layering process with these. The colors always become so much richer as each layer happens.

Also, take a looksie at this cool blog, Wattlebird. Abby Creek is featured there today along with some other Artists here in Boulder. It's a great place to find Etsy Artists in your local area.

Have a great weekend and have fun! Think we'll be taking Maisie for a swim at some point. That girl is lovin' the water lately!
