"Everyone Else is Shouting"
12" x 12" acrylic on paper
2014

Hi everyone...I haven't been paying enough attention to my blog lately. I'm sorry Mr. Blog. Been busy painting away and working on my Etsy shop so I haven't been able to devote much attention to you. I shall try and do better.

Hey...I just purchased a really good art book about Franz Kline. I highly recommend it!

Are you following me on Instagram? :)

New works on paper

"Windswept"
Acrylic and Collage on Paper
8"x 8"
2013

I'm starting on a new series of Abstracts on Paper (8" x 8" format). Having a lot of fun with them! Paper has such a different feeling than canvas and I think switching the ground you work on is good for variety and new experiences.

I just listed this one in my Etsy shop here.

Have a great weekend!

New Painting and Museum Visit

"Room to Grow"
16" x 16" acrylic on canvas
2013

Here's a new painting, just finished...a little different palette used than in the last few pieces.

James and I went to the Clyfford Still Museum in Denver recently and loved it. The current exhibition is  Red/Yellow/Blue which displays Still's interest in using primary color in many of his works. I was really drawn to this one in his yellow series. Beeeeeautiful!

You can read more about Clyfford Still's life and work on the museum blog here.

Almost there!

Sorry I've been blog absent...I've been taking care of all the final preparations for my solo exhibit at the University of Denver. It's just a few days away!

This is the building where my work will be for two months...it's the Merle Chambers Center for the Advancement of Women. It's a great space to show my work and I really appreciate them for inviting me to do so.

The DU campus is beautiful too...so if you live in the area...please stop in and view the show. The exhibit is on the first floor and continues through May 31st.

Wow, only a little over three weeks to go before the show! In the next week or two, I will be wrapping up the painting for awhile...and will be varnishing, labeling, writing a bio and sending out postcard invitations.

Two New Ones...

Here are my two latest paintings for the show at the University of Denver Women's College. I'm really enjoying working with the 30" x 30" canvas size. In fact...I think I like working larger in general now!

I will be back next week with more detailed information about the show. I will also be posting information on my Facebook page. I would love it if you would head over there and "like" Abby Creek Studios! I post my latest paintings and Etsy listings there.

"Glide"
30" x 30" acrylic and collage on canvas

"Embrace"
30" x 30" acrylic and collage on canvas

All of the paintings I'm doing for the show are for sale so feel free to email me if you're interested in one. They will remain in the exhibit until the end of May but I can ship them to you after that.

Have a great weekend!

Spring in the Summer

"Peaceful Rain"
24" x 24" acrylic and collage on canvas

Prints available on Etsy or at Imagekind.com

Feeling a bit loopy this morning after Maisie woke us up at 4:30am barking her pants off at a family of raccoons. It seems this little family of six has taken up residence near the creek behind our property. Fortunately, we have a fence but Maisie is determined to shout out the "no trespassing" bark anyway just to be sure!

The above painting is the next addition to my new series. I think this is also a transition piece because it seems very different to me than the previous ones. I like the way things are going though so I'm goin' with the flow!

I found this sweet poem today that seems to go very well with the painting.

Have a good one!

Rain

Peaceful, calming, reassuring,
thunder rolls on by,
dancing is the rain,
sky white with lightening,
I dance,
for I am at peace,
the rain oh so soothing,
it pours down my face,
I run free and wild,
while I sleep,
I have no fear,
my dreams peaceful,
I thank the rain...

Hi everyone...just wanted to pop in to say hello! I've been working hard in the studio and will have some new paintings to show you soon. I'm very excited with the new direction I'm taking in my abstract work...so hope you will be too.

I'll be back to blogging in about a week. I'm looking forward to catching up on all YOU'VE been doing too!

Have a great weekend!

Another Abstract Friday!

"Drink It All In"
15" x 18" acrylic and collage on canvas
available in my Etsy Shop here

Happy Friday out there! This is a new abstract I just finished yesterday. It was inspired by an Artist I have always admired, Raymond Saunders. Raymond is a faculty member of the California College of Arts and Crafts which is where I was accepted to receive my MFA many years ago. Life took me in a different direction though and I went to work for LucasFilm instead.

Speaking of amazing Artists...I watched another HBO documentary called, "In a Dream". Those of you who love mosaics (Manon and Rebecca!) will want to watch this. It's about the life of Isaiah Zagar and his passion for tile and mirror mosaic work...a fascinating film.

Have a great weekend everyone! Maisie says hi!

"Fill Me Up"

Here's a new abstract painting to end the week with. Have a great weekend everyone!

What art offers is space-
a certain breathing room
for the spirit.

I'm Back with a Bunny!

"Nana in the Moonlight"
8" x 8" acrylic on canvas

Hi everyone...here's my latest. This is a sweet bunny named Nana that belongs to a very good friend of mine in California. I did this for her as a wedding present because she and her husband LOVE bunnies! Maisie wasn't very happy that I was choosing to paint a bunny over a dog...but I think she's over that now. Too many other bunnies in the yard to patrol and think about!

Snuggles the Shih Tzu

"Snuggles on the Sofa"
8" x 8" acrylic on canvas
print now available in my Etsy Dog Shop

Here's my latest commission, of the most adorable Shih Tzu...just finished yesterday. My dear friend, Ruth Welter had asked me to paint Snuggles as a companion to the other painting I recently did for her of another one of her Shih Tzu's, Dudley. Ruth did a very special post about Snuggles today so head on over to her blog and read it...I couldn't have said it better. Snuggles was a wonderful, sweet dog and I'm so honored to have been asked to paint the little man. Thank you, Ruth!
