Milk Snippet

Hello!...and can you believe it's the middle of November already? Sheesh. Anyway...thought I would pop in to show you a few photos that some very special people sent to me. Sara Harley, who recently won my Snippet giveaway sent me the Milk Snippet she chose from my Etsy shop. Thanks, Sara...it looks great in your kitchen! Read Sara's blog post about it here.

The photo below was sent to me by my dear friend, Barbara Guss. She purchased my "Oranges on a Blue Plate" print awhile back and this is now where it happily lives...in her beautiful Santa Fe home. I just love the print with her decor. Thank you, Barbara!

On another note...I've been workin' away here in the studio although have been stuck on one painting for awhile. I've drawn, scratched, rubbed, scraped and changed colors several times but it just hasn't come together yet. Let's just say I've wanted to take a hammer to it today!

As frustrating as painting can sometimes be...having it work in the end IS worth the effort. I just have to step away, breathe, maybe take Maisie for a walk...then get back in the ring again. Some creative juju always helps too!

The word "Snippet" is defined as a "bit, fragment, morsel, part, piece, scrap, smidgen or snip".

As many of you already know...I have a thing for Snippets so I am launching a new series of them today. I'm taking visual bits and snips of my original paintings, new and older and am making special prints of them with slighty different compositions. I'll be making these with both abstract and still life imagery.

The Snippets are printed on primed canvas with archival pigment inks and are adhered to a birchwood boxed panel with archival matte medium. The prints measure 6"w x 6"h x 1.5"d. They are varnished for UV and handling protection and are ready to hang! They look great sitting on a shelf, desk or grouped together on a wall.

The great thing about these boxed prints is that they are an affordable gift for yourself or anyone as an alternative to original art.

Happy Monday! So hey...do you create "Snippets"? I call older pieces of art that you tear up into smaller works of art...Snippets.

While I was working on my BFA degree many years ago...I focused on printmaking. I made hundreds of monotypes...many that were ready for the garbage can after printing! I found though that if I tore up the monotypes instead...I could create little monotypes, often with much better compositions. I framed lots of these because I liked them so much.

If you haven't already...try making a Snippet and let me know what you come up with!

New Work and Inspiration

Here's my first new painting for 2011. I'm already thinking about a Snippet for this one!

So you know how things start serendipitously showing up in your life when you're looking for inspiration? Well, I was reading the Sunday "Pink Section" of the San Francisco Chronicle that James' Mom always sends us. There was an article about Javier Bardem and his new movie, "Biutiful" and he spoke to the fact that some people might find his new movie too somber. I loved the way he compared it to the work of Francis Bacon. Hope it inspires you too!
